Teams Lend Expertise and Resources to Temporary Hospitals and Shelters

CSC ServiceWorks is working with state and local authorities to provide laundry capabilities for temporary hospitals and shelters across the country. In California, CSC teams are installing washers and dryers at Golden Hall and the San Diego Convention Center which will soon house members of the city’s homeless population who are particularly susceptible to COVID-19. CSC is providing the equipment and service at no cost to the city and the machines will not require payment.
In a time when non-essential residents across the country are being asked to stay home, there are more than 5,000 homeless individuals in San Diego and several existing shelters do not meet social distancing requirements. The two facilities will provide shelter, access to medical professionals, and symptom screening and will be brought online in a phased approach, starting with Golden Hall.
“We are taking dramatic actions to help keep the coronavirus from spreading in the homeless community,” said San Diego Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer. “This is a new, coordinated, system-wide approach to serve homeless individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Convention Center is a centerpiece of San Diego’s economy. During this pandemic, it will be a centerpiece of our fight against the coronavirus.”
“Expanding sheltering capacity, access to medical professionals, monitoring for symptoms and information sharing best positions us to prevent the spread of coronavirus to our unsheltered neighbors,” he said.
